Its going to be my son’s first Christmas this year. The Christmas lights are already up and turned on. I love Christmas, I love the lights, the cheesy music, I love sitting in the dark with my hubby and looking at our Christmas lights. But I hate doing Christmas Cards. I should correct myself, I hate doing Christmas cards and getting none in return!
It’s going to be so exciting to have my son introduced to our holiday traditions, even if he won’t really get it! I don’t plan on getting him much else besides a jack in the box because I know that he’ll be more interested in the paper and the boxes!
So as I sit here and write this I’ve looked up a countdown to Christmas and apparently there are 52 days 4 hours and three minutes until Christmas. Do you think that it will make me shop any faster? No. I’m not one of those organized persons who is done in September, October or November. It’s usually me in the mall those last few days before the big day. Oh well!
I had posted on twittermoms about the lost art of Christmas cards, how every year I send about 60 out and get a handful back. Part of my issue is the postage I spend every year. I actually don’t like spending the time to write out the addresses and write out the cards, but I love knowing I’m doing the "right thing." How sad is that?
So to all of my readers, do you or your significant others send out Christmas cards? Why or why not? Did your family send out cards when you were a child? I think that’s why I feel compelled to send out Christmas cards, because my mom and my sister always do. Oh well, I’m off to address some envelopes!
I send out about 80 Christmas Cards with an elaborate Family Newsletter. We get about 40 back. I love getting Christmas letters from friends and family but we are getting less and less of those and most people are just getting the picture cards and don’t even sign them or anything! But at least they send SOMETHING so I should be happy!
the last couple years i have created a real and digital greeting card – emailing to those online, mailing to those whom are not. it also really helped cut down on those who do not send out cards. If i receive a card in the mail that i did not send to i will return the favor, if it’s too late to send a card i send a personal note thanking them.
sometimes i use the card as a package tag if we are going to see people in person.
i make my cards by hand so it does get expensive and wasteful to send to lots of people that don’t send cards in return.

my family never sends out Christmas cards, but I love to. I agree though that it us no fun to send out 60 (58 this year) and get a hand full back – the first year after we moved really was a poor return. However although I have finished writing out and addressing my cards, I never remember to buy the postage until the 2nd week in december and I think the earlier they are sent out the more you get back because people forget about Christmas cards in the hustel and bustel of the season
My family never did, except to people who sent them to us (and then sometimes not even). I think that’s why I do – I’m corny and i like feeling like I’m doing all the things from Christmas movies that we never did when we were kids.
